Well, here we are…all ready to learn more about Creating a Wiki using Wikispaces. Welcome!!!! You might be wondering why I am using a BLOG when we are learning about wikis? Well, I am actually going to model the course from a wiki...yes...but I am going to use the blog for you to comment on! There used to be a time when you could add a Blogger blog to a Wikispaces wiki, but that features seems to have disappeared. I just can't work out how to get a useful discussion page going on a wiki, so I am using this blog instead.
Because I know how busy teachers are this will hopefully be a stressless, course that you can come back to later. Enjoy! I really would like you to comment every week even if you have done NOTHING just to show me that you are "out there". That is very important on an online course.

Hi. My name is Tracy and I am the IT teacher and Librarian at NWCS, Grade 0 to 7. I am now comfortable blogging (thanks Fiona) but have never created a wiki. I'd like to know how to create a Wiki so I can teach it to my students and also use it (or them) in conjunction with my blogs. I don't know yet what kind of wiki I'm going to create, but I'm certain I'll figure that out during the course.

Hi My Name is Liesel Kruger. I am a Foundation Phase ICT teacher at Stirling Primary School in East London. I have used a Wiki with my Grade 3 pupils before, but really felt that I was only scratching the surface of what could be done. I like the idea of making the wiki look more like a real website.

Hi, My name is Val Mocke. I teach Afrikaans Additional Language at Selborne College in East London. Our goal as a staff this year: to bring our teaching and the dynamics in our classes to a level where our boys feel at home from a technological point of view. We do not want to be dinosaurs and want to keep up with the technology and experiences our boys experience and use day yo day in their own lives. I can use this course to make my "boring" Afrikaans classes acceptable and interesting to the boys!

Hi there. My name is Claire Collier. I am a History teacher at Northlands Girls' High School in Durban North, Durban. I am a very enthusiastic educator and I strive to stir up a passion for History in my learners every day...a rather challenging task at times! I started a club where I will, with a group of 19 learners, start with an electronic newspaper. I want to start a blog and a wiki. At this stage, for me, it is all about trial and error. I am first and foremost a passionate educator, who sees the need to enhance, energize and enrich teaching methodologies that addresses the child of TODAY. Only then am I, an e-Learning district facilitator who works with schools in the Johannesburg West District on the integration of ICT’s in curriculum, however (struggling to make an impact) we realize we have an enormous role to play in getting ICT integration into the schools. I don't really understand the difference between them....and although I am enjoying the girls using pages...I might be missing things out and want to learn more. I have been teaching Zulu First Additional Language in the Languages Division, but this year I am with the Division of Educational Technology, teaching an online course and facilitating an online course for ICT in Education for Policy Implementers (education officials at national, provincial and district level, principals, lecturers in colleges and universities and teachers in schools).

I am interested in creating a Wiki because I believe my students in both courses would benefit from exposure to more learning environments in addition to the learning management System they are using.

I have a lot of experience with all manner of web tools and technologies, but not so much with wikis. DeleteHi everyone my name is Zaza, an ex ICT teacher. At the moment I am a coach, this allows me to work with 10 schools, coaching the teachers on following a specific programme. This is a wonderful opportunity as I get to see different classes in different school. The sad part is that in all my school the Gauteng Online labs are on but not in use at all. With a great opportunity of gaining intense knowledge on CAPS grade 4 to 7 I want to be able to create activities and share with my teachers and they will be encouraged to do more on their own. I teach Computer Literacy to all the pupils starting from Grade 1 to Grade 7. I also run a extra mural Computer Club and we meet once a week. I would just love to create a wiki that my students can use at home, that parents can access and that other teachers can use in order to share different ideas and activities. Johannie Gerber is joining this course. I live in Roodepoort, Gauteng. My employer is the Gauteng Department of Education. I am keeping myself abreast with the latest curriculum development, nationally and internationally, via the internet. A wiki is an effective tool, not only to debate meaningful topics, but also to work in collaboration with other stakeholders. The kind of wiki I am interested in is: Current affairs in the printed media in South Africa, excluding political debates and sport. After marking Grade 12 examination papers for years, I came to the realisation that the average school leaving child do not have the vocabulary, nor the interpretation skills, to understand the printed media and make informed decisions.

I am Estia Warmenhoven from Mopani DoE in Limpopo. I am a subject advisor for CAT and IT. Have not used wikis in a structured way before but think it could work as teacher and learner support for my subject.
The Gr 10 – 12 Learners need to do a practical assessment task (PAT) that is a very big project and I think this could help to interact with learners and get them to work constructively and effectively.
